Because the primary benefactor of Spotify’s top podcast chart is Spotify. There’s an old saying in marketing of “Your strategy is showing”, and that’s the case here. But also existing listeners using other listening apps who’ll do you a solid and switch to whatever app gives you and your show the biggest boost. Spotify is hoping ( strongly suggesting might be more apt) you’ll spend considerable effort convincing as many people as you can to follow and listen to your show on Spotify. And everyone wants more listeners-especially on Spotify-so why not make the push? Yet?) Why Spotify Wants You To Push For A Top Podcast Rankingīecause their page is public, and because Spotify is really really good at tooting their own horn, it is very likely that shows that appear in Spotify’s podcast charts will get more attention from new listeners, which means more downloads and followers for that podcast. (Charts I can’t link to because Apple Podcasts only shows their charts to users of the Apple Podcasts app. Which is probably why the shows that appear Spotify’s charts are fairly in line with what Apple Podcasts shows on their charts. This is, unsurprisingly, a 100% Spotify-based determined list using 100% Spotify-only data.Īround 80 million of Spotify’s ~350 million users listen to podcasts, so it’s a very large sample size. Spotify has zero visibility into how other apps, directories, or services access your content. Second, and most important, is that this only takes into consideration followers and plays inside of Spotify. Shows with big audiences that get a lot of recent plays are exactly who should be there. Spotify tells us that a show’s follower count and user play activity are used in determining which podcasts and episodes appear on their refreshed-every-24-hours charts. See James Cridland’s excellent breakdown on how podcast charts work if you really want to nerd out. But Spotify-and everyone else-have given us some good guidance on how they build their rankings. No, I don’t have the actual algorithm Spotify-or anyone else-uses to calculate rankings. Should you play along, podcaster? De-mystifying The Top Charts What matters to Spotify is that their users and the general public believe that to be true. Whether or not you, the working podcaster, believe Spotify is the leader in podcasting matters not. Whether or not their proclamation is true matters not. That’s yet another clear and bold proclamation by Spotify that they, not those other purple people, are the dominant force in podcasting. But it no longer requires logging into Spotify to see the data. It's the same ranking data provided in their app. Spotify has made their podcast ranking charts available via a public webpage.

Throughout the 19th Century, Quincy had grown from a backwater hamlet along the Mississippi River to become one of the state’s most important cities and ports. The Civil War brought many changes and following the Reconstruction Era, Quincy was selected as the location for Illinois’ first Veteran’s Home in 1886. Senator Stephen Douglas and his challenger, Abraham Lincoln. With an estimated crowd of 12,000 in attendance, Quincy was the largest community at which Lincoln and Douglas debated. His home became a major stop on the Underground Railroad. The divide over slavery climaxed in 1858 when Quincy hosted the sixth Senatorial debate by U.S. Richard Eells, who was a staunch abolitionist, built his home in Quincy in 1835 and sheltered runaway slaves on their way to Chicago. The Illinois city’s location, separated only by the Mississippi River from the slave state of Missouri, which was a hotbed of political controversy on the issue, made Quincy itself a hotbed of political controversy on slavery. Dr. The matter of slavery was a major religious and social issue in Quincy’s early years. His absence from the official Governor’s office in Springfield provided Abraham Lincoln a space for planning his Presidential run. The Illinois legislature allowed him to stay in Quincy during his tenure, effectively making Quincy a “second” capitol for the state. At the time, he was overseeing business interests and the construction of his mansion. In 1860, Quincy founder and Lieutenant Governor John Wood inherited the governorship of Illinois. Louis, Missouri. When the Dick brothers built their original brewery, it had an annual capacity of about 1,500 barrels of lager beer within the next 15 years, it would produce about 70,000 barrels. Prohibition and finally the effects of WWII caused the brewery to be auctioned off under bankruptcy in 1951. The founding of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad in 1855 and construction of a rail bridge in Quincy was a major drive for creating a transportation hub in the region and furthered commerce. It is during this time that the population of the city grew enormously, from a little under 7,000 in 1850 to 24,000 by 1870, helping Quincy surpass Peoria in becoming the second-largest city in the state (at that time). The 1850s and 1860s brought increased prosperity to Quincy, as steamboats and railroads linked Quincy to places west, often the destination of migrants. Joseph Smith then led his followers 40 miles upstream to Nauvoo, Illinois in hopes of finding a permanent home. Also in 1838, Quincy sheltered the Pottawatomie tribe as they were forcibly relocated from Indiana to Kansas. Despite being vastly outnumbered by Mormon refugees, residents provided food and lodging for the displaced people. In 1838, many members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints fled persecution in Missouri and found shelter in Quincy. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, who developed the building, changed the official name in 2009 from the Freedom Tower. It has not always been called One World Trade Center. The tower itself has as much steel as 20,000 cars, more than 3 million square feet of floor area, and cost nearly 4 billion dollars to build.Ħ. The building required 26,000 workers for eight years. It took a lot of power and materials to make the One World Trade Center a reality. In order of height, they are the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Shanghai Tower in Shanghai, Abraj Al-Bait Clock Tower in Mecca, Ping An Finance Centre in Shenzhen, and Lotte World Tower in Seoul.ĥ. There are only five buildings in the world taller than One World Trade Center. You can see glimpses of the unfinished or completed tower in the following movies: The Dark Knight Rises, Men in Black 3, The Dictator, The Avengers, and The Wolf of Wall Street.Ĥ. One World Trade Center has been in movies a lot. The structure surpassed the 1,454 feet of the Empire State Building, which had previously held the record for 40 years.ģ. The building opened to the public in 2014, with a colossal height of 1,776 feet. Upon its completion, One World Trade Center was the tallest building in the world. The building also has a LEED CS Gold Certification.Ģ. This demand required an innovative combination of architecture and engineering. One World Trade Center was designed to be the safest commercial structure in the world. It is symbolic of the ongoing healing of New York and the country as a whole since the horror of 9/11. With its sleek exterior, the structure has also become one of the most well-known emblems of New York itself. The building is the tallest in the city and one of the tallest in the world. The Empire State Building and Chrysler Building are known for their Art Deco style, but nothing towers over the New York skyline like One World Trade Center. New York has a total of 280 skyscrapers, second only to Hong Kong at 355. The definition of a skyscraper is any continuously habitable high-rise building that has more than 40 floors. When you think of New York, what immediately comes to mind is a skyline full of skyscrapers. Wallis Budge in 1913, but since then, only three scholars have written about it beyond a brief mention. This text exists in its entirety in a single manuscript from the year 1006. This paper concerns a Coptic text called the Mysteries of John. The Mysteries of John: The Content and Context of a Manuscript from Early Islamic Egypt In the last section, I will argue for a primarily religious categorization of the Enochic lowly/humble, as opposed to an identification based on the category of class given the centrality of an anawim theology and liminal identity and discuss how this might correspond to or differs from the situational strategy of 1 Peter. Etic explorations of the textual phenomena will also be explored taking the form of social-scientific perspectives on sectarianism (especially from Bryan Wilson) and liminality (especially from Victor Turner). After a brief illustration of literary and thematic links between these works and 1 Peter, I will summarize the contents of these Enochic texts and 1 Peter and discuss their social contexts following an emic explanation of their common situation and strategy that links the treatment of the lowly/humble with Israelite depictions of the anawim. This paper hopes discuss the character of what would be shown as important backgrounds to 1 Peter: the Epistle of Enoch (1 En 91-105) and the Eschatological Admonition (1 En 108). The erstwhile resonance between African Traditional Religion and Pentecostalism has seen a face-lift in the arena of latter borrowing from the former in unexpected dimensions. The state of the healthcare system, characterized by an inadequate doctor to patient ratio and a general inadequate health care system is fuelling such phenomena. A study of such occurrences reveals appropriation of African Traditional mechanisms and methods in novel ways in current development. Healing as a central Pentecostal practice and its attendant deliverance practices are widespread. The Pentecostal movement is undeniable in Ghana and has become even more influential in recent times across the Christian landscape. Prayers are not identical with reality: in an idealistic fashion they prescribe reality, or inform reality. 4Q504 has been described as a confident prayer: “you have healed us from madness and blindness and confusion” (4Q504 1–2 ii 13–17). However, the petitionary prayers in 4Q504 do not only interpret Torah they interpret experience. There are several intertextual relations between Words of the Luminaries (4Q504) and the Pentateuch. When the liturgy 4Q504 rehearses history, through the medium of prayer, it does not only act according to Torah, it also fosters Torah obedience. The logic of Deuteronomy is that remembrance is a prerequiste of obedience (Deut 8:11). The exact contents may have varied, but it seems likely that portions of the Pentateuch or Deuteronomy would have functioned as representative for Torah. From a material perspective ‘torah’ may refer to literature, or a scroll. Taking 4Q504 as an example, this paper argues that prayer offers both interpretations and performances of Torah. But prayer also constructs subjectivity as the words and acts accompanied with it, evoke emotions which shape behaviour. As such prayer is a performance of obedience and covenant loyalty. The words of the prayer are an offering, a gift of the lip, and a demonstration of love and devotion through confession and praise. This paper suggests that prayer can be seen as a bodily response to Torah. While Torah prescribes how things ought to be, the words and acts of the prayer, as a ritual, seek to accomplish this reality– through performance. Yet they can be blasted to smithereens by the weapons of the Deep Eyes. They defeat a human not by physically attacking him, but by absorbing his life essence. Without revealing one major secret about their essence, I can ask how they seem to be physical and conceptual both at once. The aliens are strange creatures, made stranger still by the film's inconsistency in handling them. One of Aki's early expeditions is to find, rescue and tend for a tiny green growing thing that has survived in the wasteland caused (I think) when a giant meteorite crashed into Earth and released the aliens it contained. Bush's missile shield will find it easy to assign Aki and her friends to the environmentalists they believe the Earth's mantle sits above a Gaia-sphere containing the planet's life force, and that if the cannon destroys it, not only the aliens but all human life will die. Those who find a parallel between Hein's cannon and George W. Hein ( James Woods), who wants to blast the aliens with his high-tech orbiting space cannon. Her other teammates include the pilot Neil ( Steve Buscemi) and the fighters Ryan ( Ving Rhames) and Jane Proudfoot ( Peri Gilpin). Sid ( Donald Sutherland), her wise old teacher. Her allies include Gray Edwards (voice of Alec Baldwin), who is the leader of the Deep Eyes troop, and Dr. Humans live inside energy shields that protect some of the largest cities and venture out cautiously, armored and armed, to do battle with the aliens, who look like free-form transparent monster nightmares I was reminded of the water creature in ''The Abyss.'' The aliens can infect humans with their virus or essence, and Aki (voice of Ming-Na) thinks she can defeat them by channeling the eight ''spirit waves'' of Earth-or Gaia, the planetary soul. The story involves a struggle by Aki and a band of Deep Eyes (futuristic human warriors) to defend the survivors of an alien invasion of Earth. If Aki is not as real as a human actress, she is about as real as a Playmate who has been retouched to a glossy perfection. The first closeup of her face and eyes is startling because the filmmakers are not afraid to give us a good, long look-they dare us not to admire their craft. Her movements (which mirror the actions of real actors) feel about right, and her hair blows convincingly in the wind. She has an eerie presence that is at once subtly unreal and yet convincing. But we concede she is lifelike, which is the whole point. Not for an instant do we believe that Dr. It's worth seeing, and while it IS for the fans, it is perfectly accessible for people like me that have never played the games. The characters live in that cyberspace, too. So: fantastic graphics and animation, great voice acting, cool video game styled music, involving story and characters, and maybe some of the coolest fights you'll see in a while. You are an observer here, of something beyond your experience and undestanding. If a weird red lion thing that talks, turns up and starts kicking ass and taking names, and the other characters just say he's an old friend, accept it and move on you don't need a biopic flashback, or a tell-all sit-me-down. I like that approach you get caught up in the mystery and confusion that all the characters are going through. Watching the film is like being dropped into the middle of some grand saga, and having to put as much of the puzzle together as possible. There is a lot that isn't explicitly explained, and if you demand that it should be then you will probably be confused and irritated. I think though that if you pay attention, and accept what the film throws at you, it's quite easy to understand. I think it pays to be familiar with Role Playing Games in general knowledge of the genre kinda helps you grasp some of it better. This film is for the fans: "To those who loved this world once before and spent time with its friends, gather again and devote your time." Besides this ominous opening, the story was not very hard to follow, and Ihave never played a Final Fantasy game. The fights are fantastic and the magic is really cool! It's totally like a video-game in parts, with some amazing hand-to-hand combat in there. |
